The Brilliant Club (October 2014)

Earlham is taking part in an award winning organisation (The Brilliant Club) that exists to widen access to top universities for outstanding pupils from non-selective state schools. It recruits, trains and places doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in non-selective state schools to deliver programmes of university-style teaching to small groups of high performing pupils, which develop the knowledge, skills and ambition that help those pupils to secure places at top universities. The programme includes an academic strand that is styled as a university module and consists of a series of six university-style tutorials, two study skills workshops and a final assignment. Each programme also includes an access strand that consists of two university trips, one at the start of the programme and one at the end, and a range of targeted and age appropriate information, advice and guidance resources and sessions.

Just after the October half-term break the children in the Brilliant Club programme had their first trip to the University of Sussex, Brighton. The pupils are currently having their university-style tutorials and hope to submit their final assignment just before Christmas.
