Here at Earlham we know that the children enjoy writing - from poems to facts, stories to science investigations, they can write brilliantly! The children take great pride in their writing, and challenge themselves to always improve their work. We are very proud of our writers, and recognise their achievement through a regular award for our star writers in each class, who receive a certificate and a fabulous book and have their work displayed so the whole school and all our visitors can see it.

Congratulations to our star writers from KS1 -  Muntarin (RM), Talha Rahman (RS), Yaqub (1B), Zayan (1W), Fazzilet (2S), Dea (2W).  Click on the pictures of the children's writing below to see a larger image.

Congratulations to our star writers from KS2 -   Tayyibah (3A), Zahirah (3P),  Zainab (4A),  Janan (4D),  Azim (5O),  Asfi(5T),  Linh (6P) and Zakariya (6R).

Our school believes that poetry is a powerful form of communication and expression and, working with Michael Rosen, the former Children’s Laureate, we have developed an approach to teaching poetry which has at its heart the belief that poetry is for everyone. Our children are encouraged to explore, play with, perform and write poetry throughout the curriculum. We recently explored the tragic and sometimes difficult themes around the First World War through poetry. The children learnt some of the facts about the War, and then explored the experiences of soldiers and their families through poetry. Each class chose a text and analysed, performed and explored it - our children are great poetry detectives. The children then wrote their own poems about the experience of war. This is just a small selection of their amazing poetry.

The poets published in this book are our star poets, and were awarded special certificates and prizes in assembly, and their original poems are on display in school. Congratulations to Turjo (RM), Elsa (RS), Sufyan (1B), Almir (1W), Halim (2S), Ali (2W), Hamida (3A), Talha (3P), Iman (4A), Janan (4D), Zion (5O), Chloe (5T), Riaz (6P) and Zakeriya (6R). We are very proud of all our poets at Earlham!
