THE SCHOOL DAY
The times of sessions are as follows:
Morning session: 8.50 am to 11.45 am
Afternoon session: 12.20 pm to 3.15 pm
Key Stage 1 (infants)
Key Stage 2 (juniors- Phase 3)
Key Stage 2 (juniors- Phase 4)
All children have a short break in the morning and only year 1 & 2 have another short break in the afternoon.
Arriving at school
The pedestrian gate into the playground is open between 8.45 and 9.00 in the morning and between 3.00 and 3.30 in the afternoon. If you come to the school outside these times, you will need to use the main entrance at the side of the school.
When the bell rings for the beginning of each session, children are expected to line up with the rest of their class until they are taken into school by their teacher. You should make sure that your child arrives on time for the beginning of each session. You should also make sure that you are on time to collect your child at the end of each session. If you are delayed, please phone us—children can become very upset if their parents are late.
Currently all pupils in Newham can have a free school meal. There is always a choice of healthy options available. Alternatively your child can bring a packed lunch, but please do not include sweets or drinks in glass bottles. All drinks should be in either plastic or cardboard containers (no fizzy drinks).
Home Lunch: Children should be collected promptly at 11.45 am (reception), 11.45 am (infants), 12.00 pm (juniors- Phase 3) or 12.15 pm (juniors- Phase 4) and returned to school between 12.35 and 12.45 pm (reception), 12.50 and 1.00 pm (infants) 1.05 and 1.15 pm (juniors- Phase 3) and between 1.05 and 1.15 pm (juniors- Phase 4).
We think that children just starting school in reception should go home to lunch for the first two weeks, until they have settled and got used to a whole day at school.
However, if this is difficult for you, please see your child’s class teacher. After this, children may continue to go home to lunch, order a school meal or bring a packed lunch.

Attendance, absence + punctuality
It is vital for your child’s learning that they attend school regularly. Therefore, your child is expected to attend school every day unless they are ill or have a medical appointment. If your child is absent from school, please let us know the reason by phoning the school, on the first morning of their absence. If your child is absent a great deal or if your child is persistently late this will be followed up by our Pupil and Family Support Worker and possibly by Newham’s Attendance Officers. Holidays are not authorised during term time, however if you need to take your child out of school for urgent reasons please ask the office for an application form for exceptional leave.
